“We are very pleased to share the outstanding passenger traffic news, confirming that travelers across the Greater Richmond region will respond to competitive fares and more destination choices from their local airport,” said Capital Region Airport Commission Chairman James B. Donati, Jr. “It’s truly an exciting time at RIC, and 2006 could be even better with the arrival of JetBlue, more nonstop destinations, new concessions introducing popular national and local restaurant and retail concepts by mid-year, and the remarkable progress of terminal construction with Phase I slated to open in October.”
JetBlue Airways has begun a new, nonstop service from the Richmond International Airport (RIC) to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Boston’s Logan International Airport (BOS). Flights to JFK began at the end of March and service to Logan a week later.
“Richmond International Airport enthusiastically welcomes JetBlue Airways to Virginia’s Capital Region,” said Capital Region Airport Commission Chairman James B. Donati, Jr. “We look forward to having the attractive option of JetBlue’s acclaimed service and low fares on flights
to New York, Boston, and beyond available from RIC.”
“JetBlue service from Richmond to New York means significant cost savings for business and leisure travelers,” said Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce President Jim Dunn. “The service is a significant boost to existing businesses, as New York is the top travel destination for Richmond flyers, and it enhances the region’s competitive position when courting both new businesses and the convention and travel market.”
“The Greater Richmond Partnership, Inc. (GRP) is pleased to welcome JetBlue to the Greater Richmond marketplace,” said GRP President Gregory H. Wingfield. “Service by JetBlue fulfills a goal we in the economic development community have had for many years — having multiple low-cost, well-managed airlines offering service from Richmond International Airport with competitive ticket pricing to our existing and prospective businesses.”
