Industrial water treatment firm feels at home in Henrico County

ChemTreat, Inc., an employee-owned company, is not only the nation’s largest independent water treatment firm but also the fastest growing (two to three times the rate of its competition). With over 580 employee-owners working throughout North and South America, the Caribbean and areas in Asia/Pacific regions, ChemTreat embraces an international, entrepreneurial initiative. In addition, the company provides carefully engineered programs to industries such as automotive, chemical, textile, metal, electronics, hospitals/commercial and institutional buildings and more. Although ChemTreat boasts the most experienced sales force (16 years average — three to four times that of the competition) and the fastest order turnaround time (90 percent of orders shipped within 48 hours of order), the company believes the dedication of its employee-owners is the primary factor behind ChemTreat’s overall success and lofty reputation.

ChemTreat defines its mission as providing water treatment programs that maximize system effectiveness through a unique combination of outstanding service, high-quality products and superior technical expertise. Services offered at ChemTreat accommodate a complete line of total water treatment needs and include pretreatment, boiler water services, cooling water services, influent/effluent services, odor control, air stripper treatment, customer service laboratory,
customer-specific products and automation programs. ChemTreat maintains a ratio of one technical specialist for every nine field sales representatives.
In order to fully implement its mission of high-quality services and programs, ChemTreat preserves long-term relationships with customers and strives for the optimum mutual benefit. “We are employee-owned, and everyone understands that our mission is to attract and retain customers by giving them valuable service and exceeding their expectations,” said ChemTreat CFO Jeff Dowd.

In addition to establishing profitable business relationships and providing excellent service and expertise, community involvement is an important aspect of ChemTreat’s corporate presence in Henrico County. “We donate to various local charities and community service organizations in the Greater Richmond area. ChemTreat employees are more than pleased to donate their time, treasure and talent to the community with the blessing and support of the company,” explains Dowd. With the wide variety of opportunities for corporate sponsorship and donations offered in Henrico County, employees are able to give and volunteer on a consistent basis.

With a 1:1 ratio of local to non-local employees, ChemTreat has enjoyed the benefits of relocating new employees to the Richmond area as well as drawing from the talented pool of professionals already living here. ChemTreat has steadily expanded employment at its global headquarters and administrative offices located in Innsbrook, Henrico County’s premier business park. Dowd states, “We are taking additional space this fall and plan to hire ten to fifteen new employees a year. Most of our new employees relocating to Richmond have technical degrees or possess industry-specific experience. In general we make sure that technically competent sales people with extensive experience are looking after the needs of our customers.” ChemTreat pursues employees who are most comfortable working in small-to-midsized office settings and who thrive in a customer-focused business model.

Dowd believes that companies of all sizes that are in the process of considering relocation should investigate Henrico County because of its strong pro-business environment and its high quality of life. ChemTreat’s employees continue to enjoy the corporate and community aspects of Henrico County.
